Therapy Dog Prep Level 1 Our Therapy dog class level 1 is the most unique in the area. At the end, you will have the ability to title in AKC Community Canine or AKC CGC-U. It is then recommended you contact the Alliance of Therapy Dogs to discuss testing options. **None of the AKC titles MAKE your dog a Therapy Dog, it should be noted. I highly recommend that ANYONE who is interested in Therapy Dog Work - work their dog through one or BOTH of these programs as they give a wonderful foundation for what your dog should be able to do in a public setting AND help build a beautiful bond between dog and Handler. Prerequisites for this class are as follows: -dog must already have titled as a Canine Good Citizen -dog/Handler must have already taken a class or lessons with me prior to entry to this class, if not, a Meet & Greet prior to entry into class may be necessary to assess suitability for this class (as we will be entering non-dog friendly places) There is a charge for the Meet and Greet -all dogs must be up to date on vaccinations or proof of titer provided; copies of rabies must be readily produced each time we enter a facility, by Handler **If at any time a dog becomes unruly they will be asked to leave; it is up to teachers discretion how this will be handled going forward. There are NO refunds. *Part of the "Grow" Program Seven week class designed to work on problem behaviors such as puppy nipping, jumping, and handling. We will making a positive association with the world in which your puppy interacts on a daily basis and how to do so without overwhelming them and you as a Handler. We will learn basic name recognition, as well as sit, down, place, and appropriate handling, and socialization. Age 8 weeks to 6 months. Must be under 5 months to enroll. Seven week class perfect for any age range of dog. Whether you're a Handler who has never taken a class before with your dog or you're looking to neaten up some basic skills - this is the class for you! In this class we cover sit, down, touch, look, place, the difference between stay and wait, leave it, and how to be effective with coming when called. Cost: $200 for 7 weeks Advanced Foundations
This class is wonderful for those people who want to continue the training process with their furry friends. During this time we work on ensuring the bond between Handler and canine is solid and it's a pleasurable experience held by all during the learning process. Items learned include: Loose leash walking basics, distanced/increased timed stays, distanced/distraction based come when called, emergency stop protocol, and leave it. Cost: $200 for 7 weeks |
AKC Canine Good Citizen
A fantastic way to bond with your dog while working on must know items for every family dog. Prerequisites for this class are as follows: Must have taken Basic Foundations prior to this class. Items covered: Accepting friendly stranger, sit politely for petting, appearance & grooming, out for a walk, walking through crowd, sit & down on cue (distance), stay, come (distance), reaction to distraction (audible & visual), and supervised separation (3 minutes). Cost: 7 weeks $210 Test administered last week of class/included in cost of class **Filing fee with AKC NOT included AKC Community Canine
It is important to strive for excellence with our dogs. Continuing the training process offers our dogs mental and physical stimulation they desperately need and prevents future behavioral problems. This class is the next step in the AKC training trilogy. This class is offered in an indoor and outdoor format. Items covered: Demonstrating calm behavior during registration process or during our human time (we will cover stand-stay, sit-stay, down-stay in order to achieve this), loose leash walking with directionals, stop, walking through a crowd, sit/stay with group of other dogs, allow people carrying items to pet them, leave food items, down/sit stay from 20ft, come when called from 20ft with distraction present, and ability to pass through doorway safely. The final chapter of the trilogy when it comes to the original titles, Urban is something we do extremely well. This class is ONLY hosted in public setting. Due to this class being only in available in, outdoor format ONLY, we are extremely selective in those dogs we allow into our classes, as well as the the allowable class sizes (6 dogs maximum). Items covered: Passing through door ways with no pulling despite any given distractions, walking through busy sidewalks with distractions, appropriate reactions to city distractions (audible/visual/surface), street cross, leave it, handling and handling by all strangers, appropriate behaviors in public building including a 3 min down/stay while Handler snack/chats, steps or elevator, enter vehicle under control, absolutely MUST be housebroken Prerequisites for this class are as follows: -dog must already have titled as a Canine Good Citizen -dog/Handler must have already taken a class or lessons with me prior to entry to this class, if not, a Meet & Greet prior to entry into class may be necessary to assess suitability for this class (as we will be entering non-dog friendly places) **There is a charge for the Meet and Greet -all dogs must be up to date on vaccinations or proof of titer provided; copies of rabies must be readily produced each time we enter a facility, by Handler **If at any time a dog becomes unruly they will be asked to leave; it is up to teachers discretion how this will be handled going forward. A wonderful way to work on enhancing your bond with your dog and generalizing skills your dog already knows indoors, out in the real world. Everyone is always looking for something to do with their dogs - no better way to take in the beautiful sites and sounds of what Buffalo has to offer than this class! Prerequisites for this class are as follows: Class is recommended for those who have already taken at least one basic class. If transferring from another trainer proof of prior class is required. Beyond Foundations
After Advanced Foundations, continue your pups education in our 7 week class format. This is the epitome of distraction work. For those wanting to ensure a clear understanding of solid stays, coming when called, leave it, and the ability to work around other dogs - this is the class for you. Items learned include: Loose leash walking, distanced/increased timed stays, distanced/distraction based come when called, wait, emergency stop protocol, distraction table, and leave it. From "Growing Up Pup, Basic Foundations, to Advanced Foundations" we offer these in our 7 week class format from the comfort of your own home. The outline for all of these classes are as follows, you will follow along with my pup and I, and then immediately perform the cues as I've done - no need to send in video homework as so many others have you do!
